Thanks to 88,887 Kickstarter backers, Critical Role’s The Legend of Vox Machina came to life originally planned as a 22-minute animated special, a 2019 campaign raised a whopping $11.3 million, morphing the project into a 10-episode series. This content agreement builds on the long-standing engagement Critical Role has had with Amazon’s live-streaming service Twitch, which has broadcast their live role-playing show since 2015. The show is based on the adventures and characters developed by Critical Role, the story-driven and world-building digital media brand, which has a first-look agreement to develop new series that will premiere exclusively on the Amazon streaming platform. The second campaign followed The Mighty Nein, a party of seven adventurers from Wildemount. ![]() ![]() Mighty Nein will be an adaptation of their second campaign, which concluded in 2021 after three and a half years of game-play and 141 installments. The Legend of Vox Machina is based on the first campaign launched by Critical Role in 2015, which ran for over two years, consisting of 115 episodes. Mighty Nein will be the second new series from Critical Role. ![]() This is part of a much broader multiyear exclusive overall TV and first-look film deal for Critical Role with Amazon, after the huge success of The Legend of Vox Machina, Prime Video’s first foray into the Dungeons & Dragons realm. On January 25th, 2023, Prime Video announced the unveiling of a new series called Mighty Nein, which is soon to start production.
